The little red basket began life as a desk basket. With
a few strands of yarn, it had a holder and was looped over a branch of
the tree outside the livingroom window.
The first, bottom, layer is all dryer lint. Just a
normal roll of the stuff when I cleaned the filter. The top is twigs
from last year's morning glory vines. They are still pliable and the
birds just love them. I waited two days before I got the camera out to
take this picture and all the twigs were gone and half the lint. So, I
started over and fluffed up the lint and gathered another handful of
twigs.
Last year I tried using the little bits of yarn like I
had once seen suggested but the birds ignored it, leaving the mess to
mold and look really bad. I had read about how little birds laying eggs
need the calcium like other little birds. I plan on putting out a bowl
of crushed egg shells in the next few days. |
