04-26-04 After several soaking rains and a good dose of fertilizer, almost everything has doubled in size. We might even get some turnips! Wow, that would be wonderful! The "Cold Set" tomatoes are now about 2 inches tall and no where near ready to set fruit. With our lingering cold night temps, it could still happen that they do set fruit while it is dipping into the 50's at night but not likely. Of the 30 seeds I planted, 5 sprouted and one of those died recently. Almost all of the tomatoes I had planted outside of the fenced garden have been eaten down to the ground by the bunnies. Only the cherry tomatoes remain and I may move Max closer to the area so the rabbits will take him as a more serious threat. I am putting some into the greenhouse in BIG pots and the rest will go into the sunny fenced garden. It was suppose to be only for beans and okra and such but they will just have to share the space. The cucumbers are looking great. Most of the herbs are finally into the ground as well as the flowers going into the new shady fenced garden. I am watching the radar with hopes of getting back out for a bit of work before the rain gets here. It's very windy but not at all cold so it's a day for no sweating at least. |

These beds both are Kohlrabi. The first planted were almost all eaten by a bunny rabbit. All are doing fine but far from ready to eat. |
On the far left is a double row of Turnips. Then there is a bed of Cauliflower and next is the Broccoli. The cool weather has been great for them and so far the heat is not bothering them. |
