Texas Cave Management Assn. These are caves and preserves that they own and maintain. The link no longer worked so I took it out but it was the only mention of most of these places. Whirlpool Preserve (Cave), Robber Baron Preserve (Cave), Goodwin Ranch (Temple of Thor Cave, Red Crevice Cave), Lost Oasis Preserve (Cave), Rolling Oaks Preserve (Obvious Little Cave, World Newt Cave, Chimney Cricket Cave, Niche Cave), Ezell's Preserve (Cave), Deep and Punkin Preserve (Deep Cave, Punkin Cave) A better site is: Overview of Texas Caves & Karst

Hamilton Pool, Travis County, Texas This is a popular swimming hole 30 miles west of Austin. There is a 50 foot waterfall that drops into the pool. The attraction to this page is not some silly photos, it is a YouTube video. I spent all afternoon watching and enjoyed it so much. This is the Wikipedia page with two photos, beautiful.

Cave Without a Name is actually the cave's name. This link always works while their official website usually won't open and then it is most difficult to get out. For that link, CLICK HERE. But you will find a page full of wonderful photos to make it well worth the visit..

Cascade Caverns is a very beautiful cave very close by to the above Cave without a Name. Find an incredible 100 foot underground waterfall. This is a tourist's favorite showcave. Roadside America has a fine webpage that even shows the dinosaur. Seriously, it also has lots of beautiful photos. This survey will give you a map and lots of history and geological information. This WeatherFriend page tells how the cave used to be completely underwater and was then drained to allow exploration and tourists. Webshots, lots of photos.

Longhorn Caverns, Lots of History Longhorn Caverns State Park main page has some photos but most are tiny and won't get bigger. Video

The Guadalupe River, I started on the River page, scroll down the for several excellent river photos, but moved on to look through the Images pages. Wow, an archive of old memorable pictures especially of places I have known about. This site is Texas Escapes . com and has many items of interest. This is the Texas State Parks Page, also good info and a photo.

The Caverns of Sonora, The Handbook of Texas Online This is an excellent article giving the history of the caverns. This cavern was named a National Natural Landmark in 1966. A constant 71° and 95% above ground. Their website link and The Weatherfriend site.

Need to search for something about Texas? TSHA Online has a search.

Natural Bridge Caverns was designated by the Department of the Interior as a Registered US Natural Landmark and recognized by the Texas Historical Commission as a Texas Historical Site. The Tour Texas website has just a bit of information and several photos. Visit their home page to see what else they have to offer. See Trip Advisor for some feedback from folks who have been to the caverns and see photos as well. The Wikipedia page has some great information and history but a fine collection of photos, too. "The Natural Bridge of Texas is located at the entrance to Natural Bridge Caverns near New Braunfels, just NE of San Antonio. There is a charge to tour the caverns, but visiting this cave natural arch is free. The arch has a span of about 60 feet."

Want to learn more about the caves of Texas and why they are where they are? Click Here and read a fine article. from the Handbook of Texas Online.

National Parks: Big Bend main page, and photo page

Kickapoo Cavern State Natural Area,  Texas Parks & Wildlife has a lot of info and a couple of photos. I took out one site that implied that this was a show cave. It is not but the page was almost all google ads. The following link gave more correct info and also has more links to other caves. This is the survey page produced by the University of Texas. No photos here but lots of great info. You will also find links to: Wild Cave Tours, West Cave, Stuart Bat Cave, Devil's Sinkhole, Colorado Bend SP, Cicurina Cave, Dynamite Cave, Gorman Cave, Lemons Ranch Cave, Turtle Shell Cave.

Battleship Texas State Historic Site Great history notes and photos.

Eisenhower's Birthplace is now a State Historical Site

Fort Leaton State Historic Site

Monahans Sandhills State Park The link I had before turned into something in Spanish. Even I could not read it. This is the place that my dad would take us when we went to Kermit to see mom's mom and dad. We learned that you just don't go until the sun is low enough for the sand to cool otherwise you'd really burn yourself. Mom would gripe for weeks about the sand everywhere in the car and our clothes. But we had such fun rolling down the dunes, run back up and roll down again. Ah, sweet memories.

Enchanted Rock State Natural Area

Houston Space Center   Moody Gardens in Galveston

Fort Phantom Hill Note that the columns you see in the photos are the remains of the structures, they are chimneys. I had a neighbor once who thought they were cannons that could only shoot straight up. Goodness. There is also a man made lake named Lake Fort Phantom and the area's cemetery.

Punkin Cave and Devils River... at this link you will find a collection of photographs. 1 through 24 are of Punkin Cave but you will need to look for the spot where it says "in Album" and then a few of the river and misc. shots. No comments or text but the only pictures I found of Punkin Cave are the ones near the bottom of the page, click here where it mentions that it is in Carta Valley, Texas. There was a brief mention on the google page saying that it was a cave with a large bat population.

Texas Deep Caves, wells, holes, pits, crevices, sink holes, springs, fissures. No photos, no links, just a very long list. Measurements and county locations. Most of these caves did not make it to the google search and had no other information.

Goat Cave Nature Preserve, Austin City Parks and Recreation Dept. The eight acre Karst Preserve sits atop a portion of the Edwards Limestone containing numerous water-formed caves, sinkholes and smaller openings. "Karst" is the geological term for this type of honey-combed limestone. The Edwards Aquifer is water contained within the karstic limestone of the Edwards formation. The Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone is a two mile wide area in South Austin where the karstic portions of the Edwards Limestone break the surface of the ground.

Whirlpool Cave is a Wild Cave. Not a show cave as many are for the tourists. The article mentions that all cave entrances are kept locked to ensure no one enters without an experienced caver to guide them. They also mention that there are hundreds of caves in Travis County south of Austin. I did find a mention that it was a muddy cave.

The old, Obsolete, Ancient and, One Time, Homepage of DFW Grotto Online, Photo Archive... Many inactive links but make sure you look all the way to the end of the list for the Best Swimming Hole in Texas, Hamilton Pool. Awesome photos. (this is also listed above with a YouTube video.)
