These cookies are a favorite of my children. They have made them for various occasions.

For their garage sale:

My two adolescent daughters, Kayla and Clarissa, made these cookies, inexpensive yet tasty, for their annual garage sale. They happily started their cookie-baking project by cleaning the counter and making sure they had clean hands.

Then they mixed up the dough and filled the dishwasher after the mess.

For fun:

Clarissa, 8, said, “I want to bake something.”

She dug out this recipe as well as a cookie press someone had given to Kayla.

She mixed the six ingredients, which doesn’t seem like a daunting number.

Note: She used 60% whole wheat flour.

For Christmas baking:

Kayla, 12, made them for a cookie bake and for caroling. Nicole and Natasha, age 5, helped her cut out cookies. It was calm in the kitchen as I walked in. They were all working together as Kayla gave instructions about the process.

She had a few questions at first, such as how long to melt the butter.

Completing the rest mostly on her own, she then iced them. They turned out nicely. It’s amazing how things go more smoothly as they grow older.
