October Notes

10-07-04

Last Thursday was the last day of September but I looked up to see a swarm of Monarch butterflies all around the yard. I counted a group of a dozen but then lost count when I couldn't tell which I hadn't counted yet. That night on the evening news, they showed a local place where they had "all" gathered. We're talking thousands and thousands. I still see a few every day but not like those in the artclip at the top of this page. What a beautiful sight they were. Our big black and yellow butterflies seem to be gone now as I haven't seen any in weeks.

The goldfinches have not made an appearance yet and I hope to see them very soon. I am putting out the little thistle feeder today. My efforts at keeping the cat off the seed table also keep me from getting to anything on the table. All the rain we've had has made the wood buckle and stay soaked. The sunflower seeds have all sprouted and it is still a mess.
