The View From Mel's Place

10-17-04

Oh what a week it has been! I have decided though, there is not a much  happier time than sitting on the back deck in the late afternoon sun watching a kitten play in the prairie grass. Kitten (remember rescue kitty?) was so intent on her prey (most likely an unsuspecting grasshopper) all that showed of her was the slowly twitching tip of her tail. However, before she could spring, she was caught off guard by Diesel, our dog as he decided to play too!

This week MJ fixed all our dining room chairs, they are all like new now, still needing perhaps a bit of sanding but  they are just as sturdy now as they were 34 years ago when his parents bought them.  For my part I made curtains for the dining areas that match the new seat covers.

Today we put in new lights so the dining area and office (open to each other) match and both now have adequate light.

The lawn mower we purchased last weekend has proved well worth the money! Our back lawn is almost totally mowed. We are waiting for the ant food to dispose of the two HUGE hills of fire ants. I have never in my life seen so many ants as what poured forth as I accidentally mowed the top off one of those hills! Fortunately for me, I was mowing at arms length and was not myself on top of the hill! I did get a couple of bites but not bad ones.

Tonight was poker and pizza night at Mel’s Place. A wonderful time was had by all, on top of the poker playing (MJ and his buds play Texas Hold ‘em) adults the boys had friends over for computer and magic games. The most exciting thing to happen here was when one guy tried leaning back in the diningroom chair MJ had fixed this week. OH! The noise it made! It didn't crack or break but it sounded as if it realllly wanted too!
The look his wife gave him... LOL it seems she has trouble keeping him from doing that at home too!

My boys have been through three sets of card games in the last 6 years. The first was Pokemon. I still have Christopher’s binder full of cards, including some he drew himself!

Next, 2 years ago was a game called Warlords. We bought them tons of cards which they recently began playing again. Then Chris met a group of guys at school who play a game called Magic.

Chris brought home his report card last week as well, for his first senior report card he made A/B honor roll! As a reward MJ took him to a shop called Specialties where they sell the best toys (think Gund) and the cards for the various games. They sponsor tournaments for each group. Chris picked out a deck and a good die (it is more than a 6 sider) so he may play well with his buddies.

This evening was so peaceful and quiet with the boys off at a buddy’s house! MJ and I used some of the leftover toppings and had fresh pizza, key lime and cheese cake pie and enjoyed a movie, Day after tomorrow. We also got to see a CSI episode firm the first season we had missed.

I also read my book, I am rereading the little house series again, I LOVE prairie stories!

Today when we took the boys to town we stopped at an entertainment store, they sell books, magazines, and sell and rent cds, movies and games. On the 50% off rack I found 4 books from 2 authors I enjoy reading. Well one I enjoy the other I have heard wonderful things about.

I got 3 Jannette Oke books.

Loves Unfolding Dream, book 6 in the Love comes softly series.

The
Beloved Land , book 5 in song of Acadia series (I hope I can get into it, I have never read any in this set!)
And a searching Heart, #2 in the A Prairie Legacy series (I have never heard of this set!)

I also got The Betrayal by Beverly Lewis, this is I think book 2 in a 3 book set, I have never read her before but I have heard from online friends that this is a great set.

Now In the Christian book shops where I go to drool, these books begin at $8 each (they begin at $8 and go to well over $12!); the Beverly Lewis one had a $10.99 sticker on it.

I got them ALL fooooor.....$7 plus tax!

Tomorrow will be a nice quiet day, I may just fold one load of laundry, and soak up some sun, our temps are supposed to be up into the 90’s again tomorrow, then slowly dropping all week until they are in the mid 70s again by Friday! No rain in sight for a while!

Well my book is calling me back, so I leave you all with warmest wishes for the week!

Hugs
