Once, when we were doing some work
in cleaning up an old family cemetery, someone came by to deliver a
tombstone that had been ordered for one of the graves. On the back of
his truck, he had another tombstone he had to take to another
cemetery. He wanted to show it to us. We walked around and looked at
it. The poem engraved upon it captured my attention and I memorized it
for future reference. It went like this:
"Remember, friend, as you pass
by
as you are, so once was I
As I am, you soon shall be
Prepare yourself and follow
me!"
I have never forgotten it.
