During W W 2, I was a pilot on a B17 bomber

There seems to be a lack of first class supplies for our boys in Iraq. And some people are all upset about it .

During W W 2, I was a pilot on a B17 bomber. All the protection we had from flak was sheet aluminum about 1/32nd of an inch thick. We were furnished flak suits made up of canvas and small plates of steel. My co-pilot (a 19 year old man ) refused to wear one. So I sat on his, no use letting it go to waste !

My tail gunner somehow acquired 3 of the things. On the bomb run he sat on one, wore one and wrapped the third one around his head.
