Let The "Record" Show

Everyone has memories I guess, of favorite gifts they have received for Christmas throughout the years. It is the same with me.

I remember that I became quite the fan of "The Carpenters" (Richard and Karen) during my teenage years. I always thought Karen had the most beautiful voice ever. I wanted to "be" her. She was so gifted, and so was her brother. Anyway, by the time I reached "young adult" status, I had accumulated quite a few of their record albums. I kept mentioning to various people that I wondered why the Carpenters had not recorded a Christmas album. Well, the year finally arrived when lo and behold, there was a Carpenter Christmas album on the shelves in the stores. I wanted to buy a copy for myself, but someone suggested I wait until later to get it. I uneasily complied, fearing all the while that the record would sell out before I could purchase it.

Funny thing.... that Christmas, when I opened my gifts, there was one Carpenter album from my Mother, one Carpenter album from my best friend's family, and one Carpenter album from yet another friend. Talk about a funny situation. I think I kept one or two of the said record albums. They were very special to me. I believe I still have the other Carpenter record albums, but unfortunately I cannot seem to locate the Christmas version. Maybe I need to check around and see if I can find a CD version.

It is great to look back at something that brought me so much pleasure, but "...let the record show..." what really makes me happy thinking about it, is the fact that family and friends went to the trouble to find something special that would light up my life (and it certainly did).
