I looked with surprise at how long it had been since I made any notes about contained gardens. I had a big pot full of Park's Big Boy tomato all winter, it was just starting to bloom and the stem broke. The plant proceeded to die and I have yet to take it out of the light house. It was one of four cuttings from last summer's tomato plants. Took lots of valuable space to up and die but I will sure do it different next winter.

I was fascinated by Wanda's notes on the beds they are making with the child's wading pools. She is seeking to make raised beds that are easier for her to work on. They have such a problem with gophers that everything must be protected. We have moles but they do not eat the plants or roots; only the "June Bugs."

The geraniums that were kept in the lighthouse all winter did wonderfully. They bloomed almost all winter and had only recently quit. Now they are moved to the greenhouse in hanging baskets. Lovely indeed. I had been fairly sure that they would like the fluorescent lights and they did. This year I don't have to start over from tiny plants that had barely survived. I have more than last year at their best.
