A View from Mel's Place

4 more days until my youngest graduates high school! I can not believe that hyper little kid that had us all, teachers included laughing too hard to scold actually got it together and settled down. He is unlike his brother in so many ways, He is for all his humor, now a quiet young man, very thoughtful of what he does and very direct when he feels something needs to be said.

I have him home with me until August 15 when he leaves to join the Marines in San Diego . He is going to be in the JAG though he says he is NOT going to become a lawyer (even though if one chose a career by natural ability an artistic lawyer would be his) He intends to be a law clerk while studying computer graphics, animation and programming. His graphics are dead on as it is, but the degree usually helps when job hunting. He now types at 110 wpm, after you take out any errors.

I adore this boy of mine, long hair and all. He has made me laugh, made me realize that hugs are earned, not given, and that the most unusual things can bring joy. He has so many natural talents it is hard to imagine him choosing just one area to pur sue .

He can play bass guitar, though has not practiced much, can draw awesomely (though it tends towards Goth and I just do not understand the appeal) he can write wonderfully, and debate with the best, and not get emotionally entangled.

I will miss him but I am also ready to let him become the man God intends him to be.

So my view today is of a son, who never does homework yet passes every class, can draw the prettiest flowers and write sweet poems for his Ma, and dark scary stuff for his friends, can out type and out debate even his principal, and who seeks life s a serious thing, with a dash of fun loving humor added in for spice.

Who could ask for a better gift?
