Fire Ants |
I
know what you are going through with the fire ants. Unfortunately
here in Texas, we seem to have more than our share of them. I have
used boiling water on fire ants, and found it kills out the bed only if
you pour on about 3 to 4 gallons at a time. It has to be enough to
get deep enough into the bed to kill the queens. There can be up
to eleven queens in each bed. We used to have them eat our okra
also but this year we have had no problems with them in the garden.
I
have to admit that when boiling water does not work, you may sometimes
have to resort to chemical solutions. I am against using chemicals
except in extreme circumstances. When the fire ants get so bad
here that we can't control them with boiling water, we use Bayer
Advanced Fire Ant Killer. We have only been able to find it at a
Lowe's store in Victoria. One thing about this fire ant killer,
you do not have to use very much of it. Just a very light
sprinkling on the mound, and it kills out the mound. They do not
move to another location.
