Grasshopper Control

I found this in one of my gardening books and I thought since you had a grasshopper problem, you might find this interesting.

GRASSHOPPER:  Grasshoppers are very difficult to control, especially where they come in from surrounding fields, but this spray will help:
Grind together 4 hot peppers, 1 mild green pepper, 1 small onion, and add one quart water.  Let stand 24 hours and strain.  Strain and spray over plants in garden area.  This mixture also is good against aphids.
During times of grasshopper infestation an after-harvest plowing will discourage egg-laying, while spring tilling before seeding will prevent grasshoppers from emerging from the eggs still present.  Extracts of chinaberry have proven useful.
Grasshoppers can be attracted by this bait:  Fill several two quart mason jars with a 10 percent molasses and 90 percent water solution and place around the area where the infestation is the worst.  Grasshoppers will eat almost anything except horehound.  Horehound planted around the garden and fruit trees will discourage grasshoppers from entering that area.
Chickens are of great value in the area for they eat grasshoppers and aid the fertility of the soil.  The coop may be moved every few days to a new location.  This will clear out grasshoppers in a wider area.
Wild birds attracted to the garden eat a great many grasshoppers and surprisingly cats will kill and eat them too.
Hope this information will help with your grasshopper problem.
