I have to apologise everyone. I will be writing a short Article this week, as it's way past "press time", and Nita is probably wondering if I am actually going to send anything. We have had problems with the German Shepherds getting loose, frightening the stock (the |
dogs are only teenagers, after all,
and love a game of chasey), fences have had to be repaired, several
times, Brian's temper had to be assuaged, and today we renovated the
old pig pen, so I have had very little time to sit down and do
anything on the computer.
I have also been grooming the dogs
like crazy, playing with them (these are not lap dogs!), and trying a
bit of obedience training. If you have any practical advice to
give me about working with teenage German Shepherds who are brothers
and hate to be separated for longer than, oh, let's say, ten seconds,
I'd love to hear it. Don't forget that I am the only handler for
both of them. Brian is too busy or too tired, and Alice does not
want grass skiing lessons.
I haven't really even had enough time
to watch television! Last night, Muppet was so worried about the
dogs that I had to take them down to Killarney Beach to exercise them.
And that was after getting home at seven, feeding everyone and feeding
the animals.
Hopefully, next week things will be
back to something approaching normal, although having these two is the
equivalent at the moment of having a new baby in the house.
There will have to be so much more intensive training than with the
daschunds. I was thinking about the difference when I was
hanging out the washing yesterday. I can barely control the big
dogs on leashes, and yet Caution and Mowgli happily obeyed my command
to sit and stay by my feet for the ten minutes that the clothes were
going on the line. They did not budge. I have not put a lot
of time into the daschies, which tends to make me wonder which is the
more intelligent breed. My money's on the daschies, especially
as the smaller dogs usually rule the roost!
So next week I should be able to
continue my "How to get started" kit.
Dominus tecum.
