Question:
I was wondering if any of your readers have any ideas on how to keep
roosters warm outside all winter. I am out of coop room and I am
keeping them in cages outside wrapped in plastic with a light. OR a
better idea on how to keep them warm OR reassurance they will be OK
outside. Also I need to know how to keep the ducks warmer. They have
wooden boxes and a dog box, but Id like to do something for them.
They are muscovies so they are very hardy. They end up with frost
bite on their combs, but recover well. I think everybody will be OK.
I get them straw and other bedding during the winter. Im just
looking for ideas I havent thought of.

Note: I asked Pam how cold it gets where she lives during the summer and this was her reply:
It
has gotten as cold as 30 below. When they close down skiing up here,
it is too cold! One of my trivia questions in my column in the local
paper about how cold it was in a certain year prompted a neighbor to
write. He said in 1961 he was hauling coal out of Melcroft mines and
the thermostat read 52 below. I couldn't verify that, but I can't
discount it either. Wind chill could reach that at 30 below.
