Treating the chigger bites

by Kelly Warden

To cure those nasty chigger bites, take a bath in Epsom salt and those bites will not bother you any more.  This really works and it's inexpensive. Just take a bath with a little extra Epsom salt than what is recommended on the package.  I stayed in the bath for 10 or 15 minutes, that evening, and I was amazed the next day.  I forgot all about those bites.

I just learned this recently and I am so glad that I found this site so I can share this with others.

When you don't have enough Epsom salt you can try just regular table salt.  I have not tried that yet and don't recommend that for your eyelids but I was going to try that yesterday before my husband, Brad, came home with the Epsom salt.  Also, what I want you to try is a little hot  water with the salt, try to make it thick with a lot of salt then take a wash clothe to dab the bites with.  I think the hotter the water the better.  See, I too have a terrible time with chigger bites.  They get so bad and itch so bad that they leave scars on my ankles and legs.  I know exactly how you feel.  I received a new set of them yesterday.  I gave my dogs a bath out in the yard and those chiggers thought that I was a buffet.  I also have mosquito bites on my legs and I noticed that those bites still are itchy after the salt bath.  Use the salt water like a compress and that will work.

Here's another thing that I tried. I got my fingers wet and dipped them in the salt and rubbed it gently on each bite.  After a couple of minutes I rinsed it off and that made those bites stop itching.  I doesn't take the bite itself away but it does make the bites stop itching.

I feel like the cream you are using for your eyelids is probably the best thing you can do.  you sure don't want that salt in your eyes.  Oh that just makes my eyes water thinking about it.  I will keep looking around and see if I can find something else that might be better.  You never know.
