It has been about a week now since I heard the geese again. They didn't leave when I thought they had. The weather looks to be more settled now and lots warmer up north. The weather fellow said that Amarillo, Texas would be seeing snow through the first part of May. Bet they aren't happy about that.

I was out last night and delighted to hear the Whippoorwills. Such a pleasant voice in the dark. Didn't hear any reply to the little fellow's calls but that will be soon enough. It makes me feel good to see and hear the things we are used to finding. Like things are still the same and all is well.

I had looked out this morning and saw an Oriole at the water pan. The Blue Jays are still around and noisy as ever but it is also pleasant. A soothing voice.

Today is the first full day of spring and our temps are wonderfully warm. There is a mention of rain in the forecast for every day but nothing falling from the sky. Our day marked on the calendar for the first showing of the hummingbirds is the 23rd of March so I have the new feeder out and ready to clean and hang from the tree. It did cost more and looks more sturdy that the past feeders so I am in hopes that it can withstand the destruction of the squirrels. Stupid rodents have ruined every seed feeder we had. The one oldest had its line chewed off and is still on the ground. I hope to use it again one day but after the stupid squirrel chewed through a handmade holder just to knock the basket to the ground, I gave up finding ideas for taking photos. Did I mention that the big feeder was empty and it was still empty when it hit the ground. Sigh.

The cardinals are sweet with loud song, looking to find a mate and start a family. They are so beautiful and plenty happy to eat sunflower seeds off the ground. As soon as the few days of rain and storms cleared, so did all of the goldfinches. There were a few for a couple of days and now they are gone as well. The Blue Jays are still around which is unusual but they are always after the fresh water. When it gets hot, they can be seen swimming in the big water pan.

We've had LOTS of doves. I had gone around the corner of the house one day to scare up at least 6 dozen doves all over the yard. They know they can hide out here and be safe from the hunters and have all the fresh water they can drink. Their noise is quite sweet.

I am hearing the owls at night again. There will be one calling to another and then its reply. Wish they would eat more of the rodents running around at night.

It has been just over 2 weeks now since I heard the sounds of the geese. I do believe that they were moving on back to the north. I've heard no more of their sounds and they had been a daily routine.
