Flea & Tick Season 2007

It's been a very bad year and the season has hardly begun. So much was written about the wonders of garlic and giving it to the dogs, keeping the fleas and ticks away. Well, it doesn't work so grandly. It worked okay while the insects were not so bad. But they just seemed to enjoy the garlic and increase their numbers fast. Especially as the temperatures warmed. They were not gone during the winter, just fewer.

Randy had bought some of the little tubes that you put the dots down the critter's back, nose to tail. Lady hated it to the point of trying to rub her skin off all over the yard. But she had no fleas and had none for at least 6 months. But ticks, she would get at least 2 a week. Randy has a knack for taking them off and she didn't mind one little bit. We looked today and Junior has a bad case of fleas. Time for his treatment.

I had used two tubes to treat Beau. He is so huge, one just lasted half way down his back. Instantly, he had no more fleas. I could see dead ones. It was wonderful and he did so appreciate not scratching himself. I had dusted his area with DE and he seems most comfortable there. I had taken a big board that I'd put in Lady's area but she didn't ever want it. So I gave it to Beau and looked this evening to see him lying on it. It was well dusted with the DE and  he was enjoying the dry spot out in the middle of everything. As soon as his yard dries out, I will dust again with the DE and keep the fleas gone.

Garlic does little to help any flea problem. Some say it does but also it is said to cause harm to dogs and cats as well. Be prepared to buy some chemical aids to kill the rotten little blood suckers. The stuff really works. We hate using chemicals but fleas can kill your pet and fleas reproduce so fast, you must act quickly when fleas are first noticed.
