Using Denim Scraps by Jan Jennrich |
I like Arlene's ideas for denim scraps. I have used the
legs of jeans to make gift bags. I decorate some of them with odd trim
and beads and sell them at my local town market in their craft section.
To make them, first you cut the leg to whatever size you want. Then you sew up the bottom of the bag. If you sew the cut edge a couple inches up, you can fray the fabric to make a cool frayed bottom. OR, you can turn the leg inside out, sew it closed on the wrong side and turn for a smooth bottomed bag. The top will already be hemmed because it is the bottom edge of the pants. Then you can tack the center of a fabric ribbon or two (about 2-3 feet long) to the back so you can pull the ends around front to tie the gift bag closed. I like to tack it about 3" down from the top so the top flares out a bit. The top will already be hemmed because it is the bottom edge of the pants. You can have a lot of fun making these and use up lots of your other odds and ends too!
