Homeschooling Michelle 2007 Update

This will my third year homeschooling Michelle. So far we have been very pleased with our homeschooling experience. Though I have told Michelle she may go back to public school at any time she wishes, she has no desire to do so as of yet. I myself have started working at a daycare but it really hasnt changed our homeschooling . Michelle does her work during the day while I am gone and I help her with anything she doesnt understand when I get home.

This year we are lucky enough to have student and teachers editions for all our subjects and several of them have test and quiz books as well. All of them were bought at the local thrift store except the math books which I got at a flea market. I constantly stay on the lookout for good books (and Michelle groans when she sees me bring them in the house). You dont have to spend a lot of money to homeschool affectively.

I am going to start her off by reading The Diary of Anne Frank. I think everyone should have to read that book. Other than that we will be using Earth Science for Christian Schools, America Land I Love, Excursions in Literature, Middle School Math and Internet Concepts and Activities. I also like to give her any articles from the newspaper that are educational. This week there are articles about an Aztec rulers tomb that has been found. I also hope to get in some cooking experience with her in the evenings or on the weekends.

I am sure a lot of other ideas will come up as the school year goes along. I will probably look here on the Internet for interesting science kits or other fun things to do. We may also check out the surrounding area to see if we can come up with any interesting field trips for her. One of the best things about homeschooling for us is the flexibility we have.
