From My Window Spring/Summer/Fall 2009 |
10-25-09 It was the first of this month when the last of the hummingbirds left. It was down to 4 or 5 and then they were all gone away. But as they left, the Blue Jays moved in. There have been groups of black birds come through but they rarely come up to the seed table or water pans. I can hear them to the south of the house in the big round water pan. 05-17-09 We have been seeing somewhere up to and about 8 or 10 hummingbirds at a time lately. Randy bought a new feeder so there is less jostling for space. There are 3 feeders outside my window and one on the other side of the house. Two of them take on ants big time but not the other two. Any time I think about cleaning the window, it rains or at least does a drizzle to mess up the windows. It has been just over 2 weeks since I've seen a Blue Jay. Sure do miss them but I think it was the 100 and the 106 degree days that sent them on looking for cooler temps. Folks up north are enjoying their presence now. 04-02-09 Just looked out the window to the tree tops and saw a hummingbird flitting around. With this horrible wind there had not been any for several days and I always worry about the little creatures. I have to remember that the little birds don't stay at the feeder for long and there is a lot of time that I don't see who is visiting. 03-30-09 The Woodpecker photo above is from last summer but is so very pretty. Much more colorful that any of those coming into the yard for tree bugs and water this winter. I saw the first Hummingbird of spring on the 27th and was thrilled. I saw the second on the 29th and of course now I look out at the feeder every time I am at my desk or even passing by. I have yet to clean the window for any photo taking as we have not been encouraging any birds to come up to this area. Cats think the birds are their food. I tell them, mice yes, birds no. But the Hummingbirds are safe so I will again get the camera ready for photo taking. It is nice to have the little hummers back again for another season. |
