"Sometimes the Dragon Wins"© is a 15" x 10" pen & colored India ink painting with Gouache watercolor wash and 14 carat gold leaf on Canson Montval watercolor paper and created by award winning International artist Arlene Wright-Correll October 2010. The artist says, "October 31, 1986 was the last time I saw my good business friend and mentor, the late and great Warren G. Harding. I had just done a grand slam that year and had won every award the Academy of Real Estate had to give and was granted the ACE designation. The following April I experienced a huge financial disappointment in the Texas Bank Crash and was talking with Warren without realizing it would probably be the last conversation he and I would ever have and those last words of his were, "Some Times the Dragon Wins." I thought of those words often and after closing my real estate consulting practice in 1992 I often thought of how to put those words into a painting. 23 years later this painting represents my final idea. |
The Knight stands weary, his sword has drawn blood, his head is bowed as he stands with one foot in this world and one foot out of it. All the eyes of the universe are watching as "Sometimes the Dragon Wins." |

Welcome to the
meticulous art form of scratch art. This process had previously
been difficult to achieve. Scratch board or sometimes called
Clayboard is one of the more rarely used media for fine art
work. When working with scratchboard, the board itself is
heavily coated with a layer of white china clay and then black
India ink is applied where Arlene wants to work. After allowing
to dry the image is scratched in. With some pieces the entire board is covered with a smooth coating of black India ink. Arlene uses a sharp pen -like object to etch thousands and thousands of delicate lines through the ink surface into the clay layer. Pansies a miniature work of art with FREE shipping Reduced price, one in stock, $59.00. HURRY. See on ESTY, CLICK HERE. |

Violets This is the first mat I ever cut. I took one of Carl's matting workshops. It is a double circular mat and it pleased me. |
